Unlocking the Creative Self: Movement, Reflection, and Art-Making💖

Hosted by the Heart Project: Natalya & Abby

August 11th 5-6:30pm

Bushwick

$30

Join Natalya and Abby as they guide students through an exploration of creative blockages, understanding why they occur and how to take steps towards freeing oneself from them. Much of our creative repression is learned — it emerges as we settle into adulthood, grow comfortable with stagnancy, and loose our sense of curiosity. On the other hand, the act of art-making is extremely human. It’s a deeply child-like and intuitive act of exploration, a longing towards understanding the world better and making meaning out of chaos.

Natalya will guide students through a dynamic movement practice, blending breath, movement, stillness, and more. Traditional yoga asanas may make its way into this practice but it will emphasize choice, fluidity, and subtle awareness. Come in with an open mind, ready to move.

Personal journals are welcome for self reflection — paper will be provided as well! Guided Journaling will be incorporated after movement

Abby will facilitate a mark making exercise intended to free oneself up and make intuitive choices. This will be followed by group art-therapy inspired journaling.

This will be followed by group art making, individual or collaborative. Basic art supplies may be provided but feel free to bring your own materials, work, instruments, etc. Option to share at the end.

This is open to anyone seeking creative expansion! You do not have to be tethered to one medium, simply curious about the creative process and interested in learning more.
