Contact Improvisation is a movement improvisation that is explored with another being. How can we dance our own dance with others dancing theirs dance?
“CI is a partner dance form, based on the physical principles of touch, momentum, shared weight, and following a shared point of contact. The intention is to explore the movement, and connection to oneself and others, be curious and open.”
We start with guided somatic movement and then focus on partner work and some basic CI skills and techniques:
Learn to listen and feel the sensations in our bodies, and create movement awareness.
Explore the foundation and intention of touch, with our fingers, hands, spines, and then the whole body.
Practice basic weight distribution
Everyone is welcome, no dance experience is needed. Wear comfortable clothing covering the knees. (Knee pads are helpful!)
